At The Seaside: Continued
The friends mentioned in the preceding piece went for a long walk along the cliffs yesterday. The two gentlemen had the following conversation:
Mr. Jones | : | How long have you been here, Mr. Smith? |
Mr. Smith | : | Let me see! We arrived on Monday, the 15th of July; today is the 2nd of August, so we have been here exactly 19 days. |
Mr. Jones | : | Have you had good weather all the time? |
Mr. Smith | : | Yes, on the whole; the sun has shone nearly all the time and it has not yet rained; but during the last two days, as you have noticed, the wind has blown very hard. |
Mr. Jones | : | It's a pity we have been able to bathe only once so far; I am very fond of bathing. Are you? |
Mr. Smith | : | Yes, I am, and so is my little girl Betty. We have bathed every day. |
Mr. Jones | : | What else is there to do, besides bathing and lying on the sands? |
Mr. Smith | : | There are plenty of amusements. There are concerts and other attractions on the pier; a very good cinema on the esplanade, and some very pleasant walks. |
Mr. Jones | : | You must show us some of these walks. |
Mr. Smith | : | With great pleasure. We can arrange some picnics on days that we cannot go into the water. |
Mr. Jones | : | That would be very nice. Is the hotel we are staying at good? |
Mr. Smith | : | Yes, our hotel is very good; we have eaten some excellent meals and have drunk very fine wines. I must say that until now they have given us the best possible service; we wanted to remain only a week or two, but we have now taken our rooms for a month. |
Mr. Jones | : | That's splendid. By the way, have you brought your tennis rackets? |
Mr. Smith | : | Yes, I have. There are some tennis courts here. I don't know what they are like, but in any case we can enjoy some tennis practice. What do you think? |
Mr. Jones | : | I think it's a good idea. Let us go and enquire about it on our way back to the hotel. |
Mr. Smith | : | Very well. I think it is getting late; we must call the others and return to our hotel to be there in time for dinner. |

Mr. Smith | : | Coba aku lihat!
Mr. Smith | : | Ada banyak hiburan.
Mr. Smith | : | Dengan senang hati.
